Nigerian Week 2016 Ends in Grand Style as Nigerian Night Excels

The Rauf Raif Denktas Culture and Congress Center of the Eastern Mediterranean University was filled to its capacity on Wednesday Night 19th October, 2016 as activities to mark the Nigerian week got to its climax with the Nigerian Night celebration. The Night of activities was all encompassing as it featured fashion show, medals presentation to various winners of the sporting events, throwback pictures, musical performances, talent hunt final rounds, awards and a host of others.


In his welcome address the Vice Rector, International Affairs and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova stated that the current challenges Nigeria is facing would not last forever. He encouraged Nigerians to show resilience, ability to be innovative, find solutions and show the world what they are made of. While reflecting to the early years of the Eastern Mediterranean University, the deputy rector stated that because of the determination of the founding fathers the small technical University has now grown to become a full-fledged University. He said today EMU is placed as one of the best Universities in the world by the Times Higher Education world University rankings.


While appreciating the executive members of the Nigerian Students Society for preparing such a rich event, Prof. Dr. Tanova said EMU believes that there is so much to gain in understanding our different cultures. He appreciated all those who have worked tirelessly to ensure the event records the much success.


In his address, Acting Ambassador of the Nigerian Embassy Ankara, His Excellency, Ambassador Ibrahim Isah commended the Nigerian students for being responsible Nigerians and for their various contributions at promoting the image of their country.  He encouraged the Nigerian youths to continue to have hope and faith in their country as it is the first step to being a good ambassador. He said though there may be challenges on the way, one powerful strength in every Nigerian is his resilience, determination and commitment.


While congratulating the management of EMU for its successes Ambassador Isah thanked the management for the warm reception accorded him. He encouraged the students to take their studies with ought most seriousness and obey the rules and regulations of the University and country at large.


The weeklong event featured competitions like football, badminton, Billiard/Snooker, Chess Table Tennis, talent hunt, rap battle and dance challenge, education seminar and a host of other.


The Nigerian Night 2016 which featured lots of side attractions commenced with a cocktail and pectoral exhibition of different monumental and tourist attraction sites in Nigeria was filled with lots of fun and excitement. The event was well attended by top members of staff of the International Office including the International Office Coordinator, Mrs. Özgür Taşçıoğlu Güler, Student Affairs Administrative Coordinator, Mr. Ahmed Kasim, Student Affairs and Event Organizer, Mrs. Cemre Mühendisoğlu, The Head of Chief Assistants Mr. Amjad Taha among others.
