The president of the NSS EMU is the head of the Nigerian Student Society a body Created by the University, directly elected to a year term by the people through the Annual Elections conducted by the International Office. The officeholder leads the executive branch of the Society.
Since the office was established in 2006, 15 Individuals have served as president. The first, Baba Zakari, won a unanimous vote. Ibrahim Saghir served two non-consecutive terms in office (the only president to have done so) and is therefore counted as the 13th and 15th president of the NSS, Funmi Odutola is the only woman to assume the Presidency of the Society; the 16th and the current president is Izu Nwamara (since October 12,2021). Senator Mohammed Alkali would assume the Presidency as the 17th President after being sworn-in having won the 2021 Elections.
Ibrahim Saghir was the first vice president to assume the presidency during a presidential term and set the precedent that a vice president who does so becomes the fully functioning president with his presidency, as opposed to a caretaker president.
Throughout most of its history, NSS politics has been dominated by political Teams. The Constitution is silent on the issue of political Teams.
